Inventor ConsultationsA typical inventor consultation will cover many of the following topics: - Nature and Impact of "Prior Art"
- Strategy between Provisional and Utility Patent Applications
- Prior Art Searching
- Distinction between Copyrights, Trademarks and Patents
- Timeline for Prosecution
What is the Cost of a "Typical" Patent Prosecution?Unfortunately there is no way to quote a fixed price for a patent prosecution without discussing the invention you wish to patent. The time required to draft a patent application and its corresponding claims varies from patent to patent. Consequently, an application based on a paper clip will be much cheaper than an application based on the space shuttle. Naturally, most patents fall somewhere nearer to the paper clip. I strive to keep my fees low, but legal fees are not the only cost of a patent prosecution. These are a few of the expenses which should be considered when planning to apply for a patent: - Prior Art Search (for prior inventions in your field of invention)
- Professional Drawings
- Legal Fees
- Government Application Fee
- Government Time Extension Fees (Possible)
- Government Patent "Issue Fee" (If Granted)
- Government Patent Maintenance Fees (Due three times during the life of the patent)
