Patent Number: US 10441872 Grant Date: 2019-10-15 Filing Date: 2017-06-02
Overview
This roller-ski adapter system, filed in June 2017 and granted in October 2019, converts conventional snow skis into road-capable training platforms while preserving ski integrity and controllability. Developed by inventors based in Portland, TN, the disclosure describes front and rear adapter assemblies that clamp to a wide range of ski constructions using cork-padded squeeze plates, skateboard-style trucks and wheel assemblies. Poles incorporate brake lever assemblies and cable guides that actuate brake lines routed through a lower brake compartment; pulling the lever translates line tension to a braking bar that is guided by rail slots and opposed by spring assemblies. The specification carefully balances secure attachment with ski flex, detailing bent and unstressed configurations and dimensional examples (e.g., wheel and brake-bar sizing) to avoid binding or debris interference. The firm’s drafting captures both practical retrofit advantages and mechanical nuance—tensioned braking, guided motion, and protective padding—ensuring broad claim coverage and clear enablement for manufacturing and commercialization.
Key Features
- Retrofit adapters that protect skis with cork padding and squeeze-plate clamps
- Integrated pole-actuated brake lines driving a spring-opposed braking bar
- Guided rail slots and arches to prevent wheel drag or accidental lock-up
- Designed for a variety of ski materials and realistic field dimensions
By enabling safe off-snow training and precise mechanical braking on converted skis, this invention addresses a clear need in summer training and sports-equipment markets and supports product development across skiing and sporting-goods industries.

Summary of the Invention: A roller ski adapter system is disclosed. Said roller ski adapter system comprises a two ski adapter sets, a two skis, a two poles and a two brake lines. Said two ski adapter sets comprises a front adapters and a rear adapters. Said two poles comprises a shaft, a brake lever assembly, a first end, a second end and a grip. Said brake lever assembly comprises said two brake lines, a lever and a cable guide. Said front adapters comprises a squeeze plate assembly, a truck and a wheels. Said rear adapters comprises a wheel braking system, a rear wheel assembly, a squeeze plate assembly, a truck and a wheels. Said wheel braking system comprises a braking bar, a brake line, a one or more spring assemblies, a splitter and a two brake lines. Said one or more spring assemblies comprises a first end, a second end, a first bracket, a second bracket and a one or more braking bar fasteners. A lower brake compartment comprises a first end, a second end, a brake line aperture and a one or more side portions. Said brake line aperture comprises a hole in said first end of said lower brake compartment, configured to allow a portion of said brake line to pass freely through said brake line aperture. Said braking bar is held in tension between said one or more spring assemblies and said brake line. Said one or more spring assemblies is attached to said second end of said lower brake compartment at one end and said braking bar at said second end. Said braking bar comprises a one or more rail slots. Said one or more rail slots are configured to slide along a portion of said one or more side portions. Said brake lever assembly is configured to pull a portion of said brake line, which in turn selectively pulls said braking bar into a portion of said rear wheel assembly. Said squeeze plate assembly comprises a padding. Said padding comprises a first padding and a second padding. Said padding comprises cork board configured to protect said two skis while attached.
